We're the people that make up Media Two Point {OH!}, a mish mash group who loves all things made up of pixels and put on the web.

Warning: Unprofessionalism in Social Media

So we submitted our newly designed blog to @michaelgass top agency blog contest (no shame – if you like it – click here to vote for us), and I popped in to check out the results, only to see we’re getting our ass kicked by the Top Gun group down in Iowa of all places!

As this is a contest of best social media blogs, I thought it would be great to use these last few days to engage in a social media show down with them!  Now, we’re far from popular, so I can’t imagine anyone is going to see this between our combined 17 viewers – but I still thought it would be fun in the spirit of competition.  Although I’ve never met Goose, Maverick, Iceman or Charlie – I’m guessing they won’t take offense to a little good natured ribbing.  If they do, well… We’ll apologize in 140 characters or less.

Here are the top 5 reasons to vote for our blog at http://twtpoll.com/8g1osk versus the Ad Mavericks blog:

Reason #5)  We have Halloween themed voting – how can you beat the fresh content of jack-o-latterns!

Reason #4)  They’re in Iowa…  There’s no social media in Iowa yet – is there?

Reason #3)  We put cute social media icons on our page. If you’re bored with me, you can easily pop over to YouTube and see Jon doing his daily Gregorian Chant or balancing ball act!

Reason #2)  We aren’t self promotional – at all!  Unless you really want to do kick-ass interactive media, then you should call us… But if you’re fine letting your current agency half-ass it – then we’re really not self promotional at all.  Really.

Reason #1)  Seriously people – they’re in Iowa.  Everyone in New York knows you need to be in New York to be a “real” agency.  And we’re closer to New York than Iowa!

Seriously – May the best blog win!  Unless it’s not us – then the best blog didn’t win…  But if we win – then may the best blog win!  And then we won’t use the title to self-promote ourselves at all…  Did I mention to vote here: http://twtpoll.com/8g1osk That’s Media Two Point {Oh} – like Media 2.0 – but with a…  Never mind, you get it.

Update!  As I don’t want to push our “real news” any further down the list, but I do feel it important to respond to AdMaverick and their post of Media Two Point Oh being the “Worst of the Week”.  I was shocked!   I didn’t know there were so many great things in Iowa.  Having only been to Des Moines once in my life – I decided to do some more research on everything so I could become better educated – and I too turned to Youtube (although – I am just a media guy and I would have been better served having one of our designers do up something creative) – I felt this video spoke volumes:

Oooh! I love a throw down! With just a single blog post, we’re suddenly mixing it up with a shop in Iowa!

I must admit though… just the thought of Iceman and Goose make me want to invite them for a game of beach volleyball.

did you mean to be a jackass about Iowa so you would get more publicity? it may have worked….but only left you looking ignorant

  • “k” – here’s a couple tips for you:

    1) lighten up. If you knew the ad industry you’d know I was more making fun of New York than I was Iowa.

    2) if you are seriously insulted than email me directly or call me. The worst thing you can do in social media is draw more attention to perceived negatives – it only snowballs the situation to greater proportion. Don’t fuel the fire – SEO feeds off of links and comments! Unless of course you’re trying to indirectly draw attention to yourself.

Who knew talking about IOWA would get anyone attention?

  • Well done Media Two Point Oh No! That video is a new one to me as I actually have gotten off of Interstate-80 and explored the state. I can’t wait to show my fellow Iowans the stereotyping that North Carolina folks have for Iowa. Its almost like you want us to win. Thanks for the ammunition!

I knew some Americans were ignorant, but to publicly display that ignorance while simultaneously branding their company? Out of what, jealousy? Wow. Where’s the thought process behind that.

I love that video! I lived in Nebraska for 8 years… brought back memories. Just change out the cities! Currently looking for an NC youtube video about moonshine or dating your sister…

Neither of you get my vote! No hard feelings ;)

  • I may have to fire up my magic wand and put a spell on the entire state of North Carolina!
