Driving Innovation in Audio: How ESPN Takes Content Local, Mobile and Social // Traug Keller

Traug Keller discussed how ESPN has very strong brand strength.  ESPN Radio is #3 behind ESPN and ESPN2.  They developed a mission to go beyond radio to audio and broaden this area.  Streaming is a huge reason way that ESPN reaches their fans daily, second only to terrestrial radio.  Over time the mobile device has become a portable radio for listeners.  ESPN Radio App is the #1 paid sports app on iTunes.  One app that combines everything was very beneficial for ESPN and helps hold those stats steady.  Focus on content!

Mobile Consumer Issues – Privacy and Trust // Fran Maier

Fran Maier discussed mobile consumer issues with privacy.  She mentioned that by clicking on the second icon on an ad you can make choices if you want to be behavioral targeted.  Security used to be the big issue but now it seems that privacy is the bigger issue.  The phone is a much more personal item to consumers and the privacy issue for mobile is more important.  You are asked to use your location for apps but not informed why the information is being collected.  It is important for consumers to know what their information is being used for.  Targeting and tracking is not really occurring currently on smart phones.  The information that is shown on the privacy statements should be easy to use and easy to read for consumer preferences.  There are many repercussions for not adhering to privacy policies.
