It’s been a month since I moved here to North Carolina from Florida to begin work here at the #1 interactive advertising agency. Ok well I am biased. I have had a month to take an in-depth look at the team here at Media Two as well as the types of clients and potential clients I would have the pleasure to work with. Beside the fact that I still have Florida blood and try not to complain how cold I am here, North Carolina has been good to me.
Maybe I’m content because I came to Media Two during the Holidays while vendors and clients are sending chocolates and other lavish gifts (because we are so great to work with). Maybe it’s because Media Two had its annual Holiday party at a restaurant I hadn’t tried before called 518 West. The food was amazing and getting to know that staff was equally amazing.
I have learned not only do they care about the growth of Media Two but also about their clients and especially each other. Those qualities are hard to find in a company. Normally employees complain and could care less about the growth of the company, but that’s not what I see at Media Two. It’s especially exciting to me since my new found title here at Media Two is New Business Development.
Recently I had the team send me a list of who they would like to work with. Some of the names were Red Oak Brewery, Smith and Wesson, as well as The Boston Red Sox and Whole Foods to name a few. This proves the diversity here at Media Two and makes me a little nervous that one employee requested 20 firearm clients that he would like me to call on. By the way what is the gun carrying law here in NC anyway, especially when it comes to the work place? Enough about the work place, let’s talk about life outside the office.
I cannot divulge in detail how awesome it has been to work with the current clients we have mainly because they don’t want to reveal their secret weapon (us). However I can talk about companies I’ve had the privilege to meet so far since joining Media Two. Part of my role here at Media Two is to meet people, which I love to do. So far here are a few interesting and successful people and companies I have been able to connect with.
One of the most approachable and one of the Triangle’s greatest success stories is Joe Colopy from Bronto. Michael Hubbard and I grabbed lunch last week by the Bronto headquarters in Durham. It was my first time in Durham and it was amazing. Seeing all the great companies there, the ball park and getting a chance to hear Joe’s story of how he started in his home and now he is up to 85+ employees, was well worth the trip to up I-40. We had a great lunch and listening to my CEO Michael Hubbard and the leader of Bronto talk about business and the future. It was a great learning experience for me. I wish every successful CEO was similar to Joe Colopy in regards to his humbleness, kindness and approachability. He told us that each quarter he moves his desk around the office. I think that is amazing. What a great way to get to know firsthand what your employees are doing and feeling, plus everyone can hear him on the phone, and see his work ethic.
Next I met up with a great friend and another success in the Triangle area Bryan Hamilton who was recently named Publisher of the Triangle Business Journal. He is one of the youngest Publishers in the American City Business Journals organization which is headquartered in Charlotte. The Triangle Business Journal has huge influence on the business community and one of my best friends is now running the show there so I think that makes me kind of a BIG DEAL. I could be wrong but I think that is how it works. Anyway enough about me, Bryan has a lot of responsibility and he is the right person for the job. His character and work ethic are unmatched. He is going to do an amazing job.
Finally I met and amazing duo from Drawbridge Media. Alisa and Vernon came to our offices carrying TV’s and Apple products. We witnessed some amazing work that they have done and saw some of their capabilities. It was the first time that I’d seen someone pull out their iPad to show some off their work, but I am sure it will not be the last. Drawbridge Media was very impressive and I look forward to a long-lasting relationship with them.
I am looking forward to the future here at Media Two and living life in the Triangle. I sure hope it warms up soon or that my blood thickens quickly, but luckily I am a huge basketball fan, so there will be a lot to cheer about with all the great sports programs to keep me warm with enthusiasm.
Have a safe and happy holiday.
