As the New Year holiday approaches, we’re all thinking about resolutions (or ultimatums for some of us) and rather than focus on the inevitable weight loss and health-related ones, let’s think about marketing resolutions. After all, New Year’s resolutions are about adopting best practices or making changes to our day-to-day that will have a positive effect in our future. Why not make 10 marketing resolutions for 2010 that will ensure your success?
To get the ball rolling, I’ll issue a challenge. I’ll start the list, but I challenge all of you marketers out there to complete it for me with your resolutions!
Here are my bids for top resolutions for marketers in 2010:
• I will measure. Measure ALL marketing efforts. Do not get too distracted to measure and evaluate the results of whatever project you’re working on.
• I will Tweet more often. Just as frequently as you would share your business news or tips to a colleague, Tweet and retweet them to share knowledge of the great things your organization or another organization is doing.
• I will blog regularly. Blog often to keep content fresh and keep readers informed about services, insights and industry observations. Encourage increased response and feedback.
• I will plan. One example – plan an annual editorial calendar to improve content in your organization’s e-mail newsletter. No more scrambling for content or offers based on “what’s on sale” — decide what will drive your business then create content to support it.

I will refresh my website. Consumers use the web as their primary place for research and information about the products, services or companies that they are interested in. Does your website reflect your best work? Does it give the consumer the details that you want them to know about you easily? Does it compel them to call your sales team for more information? Are you tracking visitors and their behavior and improving their experience based on website analytics? If you can’t say YES! to each of those questions – refreshing your website should be priority number one.
I will try and incorporate new and innovative ad and sponsorship opportunities into my clients plans.
I will help people with no expectations.
I will tell people when they are doing it right.
I will build my network by being useful.
I will look at the big picture. How are all my client’s various projects coming together to convey a call to action to their targets?
Hello i read your site frequently and wanted to say all the best for the New Year!
